Take turns reading statements that begin “Never have I ever…”. Anyone who has done the thing admits it by taking the agreed action: usually a small drink, lowering a finger or marking a point.

What is Never Have I Ever?
Never Have I Ever is a confession game. Each statement describes something the speaker claims never to have done. Everybody who has done it responds, which usually leads to the actual fun: finding out who has a story and deciding how much they are willing to share.
You do not need cards, a score sheet or alcohol. A prepared list helps, but the traditional version also works by taking turns inventing statements. Start with broad, funny prompts before moving into drinking stories or personal questions.
How to play Never Have I Ever

Choose the response rule
The common drinking rule is that anyone who has done it takes a small drink. For an alcohol-free game, hold up five or ten fingers and lower one each time a statement applies.

Read a statement
One person says something they have never done, beginning with “Never have I ever…”. Keep it clear enough that everyone can answer.

Everyone responds honestly
Players who have done it take the agreed action. Anyone who has never done it does nothing or keeps their finger raised.

Share the story if you want to
The group can ask for details, but nobody owes an explanation. Let people skip a statement without making it a bigger moment.

Move to the next statement
Continue around the group or use a shuffled question deck. You can play without a winner, or use the fingers version until one person has fingers remaining.

Answering “I have” is enough. Do not demand the story, and do not use a statement to corner one particular person. Agree that anybody can skip, switch category or stop.

Playing without alcohol
The fingers version is the simplest alternative: everybody starts with five or ten fingers raised and lowers one when a statement applies. The last person with a finger up can win, although plenty of groups ignore scoring and play for the stories.
You could also use counters, award a point for every “I have”, or let the person with the most unusual story choose the next statement. Water and soft drinks work too. The response only needs to be visible and comfortable for the group.
How Never Have I Ever works in Messy Times

Read from one shared phone
Choose a pack and the app shows one shuffled statement at a time. Everyone who has done it responds using the group’s chosen rule, then somebody taps for the next statement. The phone does not collect names, answers or scores in this mode. It works completely offline and reshuffles the pack after reaching the end.
PRIVATE MULTIPLAYER
Answer first, reveal together
A host creates a room and shares its six-character code. Two to 12 players join with display names and see the same statement. Each eligible player privately chooses “I Have” or “I Have Never”. The room shows response progress but not individual answers while voting is open.
Once everyone has answered, the shared reveal names the players who selected “I Have”. The host advances to the next statement. Somebody joining partway through watches the current round and can answer from the next one. Multiplayer requires an internet connection and has no score or fixed winner.
Frequently asked questions
How many people can play Never Have I Ever?
The traditional game works with two people, but a larger group produces more varied answers. Messy Times private multiplayer supports between two and 12 players.
Do you drink if you have or if you never have?
Under the usual drinking rule, you drink if you have done the thing in the statement. Agree the rule before starting so nobody has to guess.
Can you play Never Have I Ever without drinking?
Yes. Raise five or ten fingers and lower one whenever you have done it, use counters, or simply answer aloud without keeping score.
Are answers private in Messy Times multiplayer?
They stay private while everybody answers. At the shared reveal, players who selected “I Have” are named to the room. “I Have Never” responses are not listed individually.
Does Messy Times choose the statements?
Yes. The app shuffles the selected pack and presents one statement at a time. One Device continues with a reshuffled pack; multiplayer also reshuffles after reaching the end.
